Building And Marketing A Web Site As A Home Business ( Part 2 Of 2 )
By Tom Castro
Many ideas and resources exist to the would be "home business entrepreneur" for the marketing of a web site as a home business to gain maximum exposure, web site visitors, sales, and revenue. Marketing ideas are numerous and implementation can take minimal time and effort. Once an aggressive marketing strategy is decided upon and "set in motion", with determination and the desire to succeed at online marketing, it will only be a matter of time before positve results can be achieved.
Marketing a web site as a home business, once it has been published, doesn't have to be difficult, expensive, or tremendously time consuming. Marketing ideas consist of distributing informational materials, mobile advertising, enrolling in affiliate ( advertising ) programs, using search engine optimization techniques to gain maximum exposure, obtaining links and link partners, and writing articles. Ideas can be implemented in varying combinations using a gradual progression over time to achieve desired results such as increased traffic and / or revenue.
Other than a computer, internet connection, and published web site, a printer / scanner / copier can be an invaluable tool for achieving marketing success on the internet. Numerous marketing techniques can be implemented using a printer / scanner / copier and an "office" type program. Display the webmaster's name and web site address, contact number, and email address to maximize web site visitors, sales leads, and increase revenue.
Use the following marketing techniques:
Business cards: Always have available for potential customers
Fliers: Post on approved message boards
Postcards: Mail to family and friends or purchase an opt-in mailing list
Mobile advertising can be used by simply purchasing vinyl letters from any art and craft store such as Michael's. Spell out the web site address on personal vehicles that are driven regularly. One inch letters can be used and need to be placed high enough and spaced far enough apart to be easily viewed and read by others. Be sure that when parked the advertisement is able to be seen by passers-by.
Affiliate programs ( also referred to as associate programs or partner programs ) are numerous, differ according to the type of ad campaign, and can be found by doing a search online using appropriate keywords. Many of these programs are free, have a very easy registration and approval process, and allow affiliates to display targeted ads ( ads consistent with the theme of the site ) and offer discounts and / or coupons ( coupon codes ) to web site visitors while earning an income from pay-per-click, pay-per-display, pay-per-lead, or pay-per-sale ads.
Register for affiliate programs at the following sites:
Google Adsense at: http://www.google.com/ads/
Clickbank at: http://www.clickbank.com/
Commission Junction at: http://www.cj.com/index.jsp
Search engine optimization ( SEO ) is the optimization of a web site to achieve the highest search engine ranking possible to maximize exposure. SEO consists of a number of factors that include, but are not limited to, meta tags ( for description and keywords ), content, links, frequency of updates, and length of time the domain name has been registered.
Meta tags for description and keywords need to be used since they help a search engine to determine what the web site is about. Meta tags can be automatically generated and quickly added to any web page at http://www.scrubtheweb.com/ or http://www.1-hit.com/. Use an original description with keywords related to the content of the particlular web page. Keywords are words that describe the content of the web page and need to be related to the content of the particular web page.
Content is information a web site provides to viewers and needs to be original, informative, and useful. Quickly find and add relevant content to a web site by using free reprint articles found at web sites such as http://www.articlesfactory.com/ and http://www.isnare.com/. Authors must be given credit for their articles by leaving the resource box and link to their web site in-tact. Adding new content regularly will give interested viewers a reason to return time and again and refer the web site to others.
Links can be one-way ( either outbound or inbound ) or reciprocal ( two sites link to each other ). One-way inbound links from related web sites can be purchased, added spontaneously, submitted to directories, or obtained by submitting original articles. One-way outbound links to related sites are generally added as a convenience to visitors directing them to additional information or resources. Reciprocal links can be obtained at link exchange sites such as http://www.linkmarket.net/ and http://www.linkalizer.com/. Carefully select links and link partners to maximize search engine rankings and web site visitors.
Find and submit to hundreds of mostly free search engines and directories at http://www.ezilon.com/worldwide-free-search-engine-submission.htm. Most submission forms require a name, email address, and web site uniform resource locator ( URL ), title, and description. Once submitted, a web site may have to await approval and notification via email. If approved, be sure to find the link and ensure it is listed properly and works correctly.
Writing original articles and submitting them to article submission sites can be used to direct visitors to a web site or specific web page to increase publicy. Approved articles will have information about the author and a one-way link (s) back to the web site ( page ). Others may reprint the article as well which will generate even more traffic, leads, and eventual sales.
Diligent use of various marketing techniques will allow new visitors to find the web site and the information it contains by typing in the URL from a business card, flier, postcard, or mobile advertisement, doing a keyword search at one of the many search engine sites, or by clicking from another web site. Allowing time and having patience will lead to the success of any marketing campaign.
